I'm posting this in hopes it will help all of you that have been asking in public, and on the boards about Winamp, and for these that have not used it yet.
Winamp Media Player.
It is a very accessible player and doesn’t require any special scripts to operate it. Here is a general guide to get you started.
If you don’t have it downloaded already download it here, www.winamp.com
Move down the page until you locate the download link. After you click it on the next page you’ll notice it detects your language, and OS. You’ll need to click another link on that page.
Installing: You’ll have some options, whole, light, and such, my personal preference is to use the custom option, and it should be set on that one automatically. Using the custom option gives you choices to how and what you want. As you click through next you’ll find these options, so can choose. All are just fine, but again you can decide. When you get to install do not assume you have chosen all the choices, because there are some more under the install button, so take a look and uncheck any you don’t want, such as E Music’s offer of 50 free MP3’s and audio books, Winamp as your default search provider, and such.
Now that you have chosen your options click install.
Setup: After it installs you’ll find more options for the “look and feel” of your player. For screen readers the classic skins work best, however, with Jaws 10 and above I have not found any issues using modern skins, but do not know about Window Eyes and NVDA.
You can learn much about its operation by trying these options: Now I am only referring to Jaws, I am sorry I do not know about other screen readers, but I would assume these key strokes are general.
Insert H will give you a list of keystrokes to operate the player. Arrow up and down to learn.
Alt H brings you to the Winamp help section, to register your Winamp Pro and other things.
I am using the Bento Skin, so alt P works my player. Control P takes you to Winamp options. Open and close them right and left arrow. You must close an options, example general to move past it’s options, otherwise you have to listen to all the sections options as you arrow down.
A popular feature is playing radio stations using the URL to get to them. You can put this right in Winamp using control L.
There is much more to the player, but with the info you have you should be able to learn and use it to its fullest. Enjoy.
